Field Set For 2008 Patriot League Volleyball Tournament

Nov. 15, 2008

Center Valley, Pa.--For the eighth consecutive season, American University will host the Patriot League Volleyball Tournament. On Friday, the Eagles clinched the top seed in the tournament with a straight-sets win over Holy Cross. American will seek its seventh undefeated Patriot League regular season record in nine seasons when the Eagles battle second-place Army on Saturday. American holds a one-match advantage over the Black Knights in the Patriot League standings, but the Eagles, who have lost just two sets in League play this season, hold the tiebreaker over the Black Knights. Army will be the second-seeded team in the Patriot League Tournament.

The complete tournament field was also determined on Friday. Bucknell clinched the fourth and final spot in the tournament, joining American, Army and Colgate in the field. Coupled with a Lafayette loss, Bucknell secured its place in the tournament with a 3-0 win over Lehigh. The Bison will meet top-seeded American on Friday, Nov. 21 in the first semifinal. Colgate, which clinched the tournament's third seed with a 3-0 triumph over Lafayette, will be paired with Army in the second semifinal.

American has won seven straight Patriot League crowns, including a 3-0 victory over Colgate in last year's final. For more information, please visit the 2008 Volleyball Championship page.
