Ryan Baker played football and baseball at New York Mills High School.

Volleyball, too, but that was something of an afterthought.

"Definitely, football and baseball," he said when asked which sports he liked the best. "I had played them longer."

Volleyball is his game now.

Baker, a 1999 New York Mills graduate, is the coach of Colgate University's ever-improving women's volleyball team, which is headed for weekend dates at home with American University (7 p.m. Friday) and Navy (4 p.m. Saturday).
