LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Navy volleyball team fell to the host Bucknell Bison, 3-0 (30-25, 31-29, 30-23), Friday night in Lewisburg, Pa.
Navy (10-15, 5-7 Patriot League) fell in the opening game, 30-25, as BU outhit the Mids, .237 to .180. However, the Mids battled hard in the second game before the Bison squeezed it out, 31-29, despite Navy's match-best .226 hitting percentage. BU clinched the match in game three, 30-25.
Junior Ashley Van Hartesvelt (Breckenridge, Colo.) led Navy with a double-double, tallying 16 kills and 17 digs along with a .293 hitting percentage. Katie Geary (Jr./San Jose, Calif.) and Amanda McHenry (Jr./Cary, N.C.) chipped in with eight kills and three digs apiece. Mariellen Carnes (Fr./Virginia Beach, Va.) registered a team-high 22 assists, while Michelle Augustine (Sr./Vista, Calif.) came up with 14 digs.
BU (15-9, 11-1 PL) was paced by Jackie Leahy's match-high 20 kills and seven digs, while teammate Brandi Trapasso registered a double-double (11 kills, 21 digs). Jessica Bissett and Sarah Groman came up with seven and six kills, respectively.
Navy returns to the court Saturday night at 7 p.m. when the Mids travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate.
