EASTON Pa.-For the second time this season, the AU volleyball team was able to defeat the Lafayette Leopards 3-0 ,(30-17, 30-19, 30-19) for their ninth straight win this season and to extend their Patriot League winning streak to 37. The Eagles are now 13-8 overall and 9-0 in the Patriot League.
Junior Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa) was a huge force in leading the Eagles to victory with great defensive blocks and a strong hitting percentage (1.000). She also contributed with five kills and 2 digs and 18 set assists.
Also leading the Eagles was senior Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno), who racked up 10 kills to add her total career kills (1545) which now puts her 115 kills away from the AU record for most career kills.
Sophomore Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hills) and junior Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) also helped the Eagles with nine kills each.
With five Patriot League matches left until the tournament, the Eagles lead the way undefeated. If seated first at the end of the season, they will host the tournament November 21-22 at Bender Arena.
Until then, the Eagles will try and continue their winning streak as they take on Patriot League nemesis Holy Cross in Washington D.C. on October 31, and Army on November 1. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m.
