CAPE COD, Mass. - When 2nd Lt. Briana Stremick (West Point '09) graduated 13th in her West Point class in May, she did so with a bevy of athletic and academic awards to her name. On Tuesday afternoon, one more award was added to Stremick's resume as the Eastern College Athletic Conference honored her with the prestigious 2009 ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for the Division I level.

Stremick (Langdon, N.D.) became the second female from West Point to garner the Robbins award since its introduction in 1994, joining former women's soccer player Julie Jorgensen (West Point '06). The ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards, sponsored by the Cincinnati-based sports surfaces company, honors the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Division I, II and III. One male and one female athlete from each division are selected based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics and community service.

A native of Langdon, N.D., who graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Stremick was commissioned in the United States Corps of Engineers Branch in May.

Leaving a mark on West Point both athletically and academically throughout her four-year career, Stremick was a four-year Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and capped her career by taking home the 2008 Patriot League Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award last fall. Stremick boasted the highest grade-point average on the team with a 3.935 and was named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American as a senior. Also in 2008, she was a Rhodes scholarship finalist, partaking in the interview process in the same weekend as the Patriot League Volleyball Tournament.

Stremick was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi and Golden Key Society national collegiate honor societies. She earned the Distinguished Cadet Award for being in the top five percent of her class, along with being on the Dean's List and earning the Gold Star for Academic Excellence.

Upon graduation, Stremick received the Scott R. Clark (West Point '85) Innovation for Soldiers Award and was honored as the cadet with the highest academic standing branching Corps of Engineers. She graduated 13th out of her class of 970 cadets.

In addition to her outstanding academic accomplishments, Stremick's exploits on the volleyball court are equally impressive. The two-time All-Patriot League selection finished her career ranked eighth on Army's all-time kills list (1,039). She enjoyed a stellar senior campaign during which she led the Black Knights in kills (3.03 kills per set), while landing second in hitting percentage (.281), service aces (30) and blocks (0.74 blocks per set). Stremick concluded her career with 200 blocks, which ranks ninth in Academy history.

Stremick was a part of a senior class that produced the top two winning percentages in program history back-to-back (2007, 2008), along with helping Army post a sparkling 92-23 record during her time at West Point.

A formal awards presentation took place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, during the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens. The luncheon was held at The Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis, Mass., as part of the ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show. The Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards have been presented since 1994. Famed Connecticut women's basketball player Rebecca Lobo captured the award in each of the first two years of its existence.
