HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Colgate University volleyball team opens its 2005 campaign tomorrow, Aug. 27, hosting Binghamton at 3:30 p.m., on Cotterell Court.

Sporting a 19-13 record in season openers, this match marks just the third time the Raiders have opened on their home court in 33 seasons. Colgate defeated Oswego State 2-1 in 1976 and fell to Syracuse 3-0 in 1998.

The Raiders and Bearcats will be facing off for the 13th time, with Colgate holding a 7-5 advantage. Binghamton has won each of the past three meetings, including a 3-0 victory in the most recent match in 2003.

Captained by seniors Allie Nichols (Sacramento/Sacramento, Calif.) and Meghaan Walsh (Carondelet/Walnut Creek, Calif.), Colgate returns six players from last year's squad and welcome aboard a talented group of six newcomers.

Nichols is the Raiders' top returning offensive player after leading the team in assists and serving aces last season, while Walsh will be a defensive presence after finishing second on the team in digs in 2004.

Second on the team in kills per game a year ago, junior hitter Marybeth Maziarz (Minnechaug Regional/Wilbraham, Mass.) also will be a major contributor on offense for Colgate this year.

Picked to finish sixth in the America East conference, Binghamton returns three starters and seven letterwinners. The 2004 squad earned a spot in the conference tournament for the first time since joining the America East in 2002.

There also will be a serve for a t-shirt promotion between the second and third games of the match.

Fans who can't make it to Hamilton for the match can listen to the match on the Internet. Visit http://www.gocolgateraiders.com/volleyball and don't miss a minute of the Raiders in action.

Colgate will hit the road the following weekend, traveling to the Western New York Tournament to play Niagara, Buffalo, and Canisius on Sept. 2-4.
