American And Bucknell Honored For Academics By AVCA

July 30, 2008

2007-08 AVCA Team Academic Award Recipients

Both American and Bucknell's volleyball squads were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with their Team Academic Award. The award is given out to teams that maintain a 3.30 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) over the course of the academic year.

The AVCA Team Academic Award is handed out to both collegiate and high schools teams. In total, 353 teams were honored this year, including 70 Division I schools. The 70 Division I honorees are the most in the history of the award that was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year.

In 2007, American captured its seventh-straight Patriot League Volleyball Championship title and made its seventh-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Eagles ended the year with a 26-8 overall record and a 13-1 mark in League play under the direction of Head Coach Barry Goldberg. Bucknell went 12-17 overall and 5-9 in Patriot League contests with Cindy Opalski at the helm of the Bison program.
