American Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

Center Valley, Pa. – The American University volleyball team is one of 94 in NCAA Division I to earn a Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 season from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced Tuesday.

American is the only Patriot League institution represented on the list. This year a record 450 teams were honored across intercollegiate and high school volleyball.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

American has been honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award in all nine seasons in which the University has been a member of the Patriot League. The University joined in 2001.

The Eagles play their 2010 opener Aug. 27 when they host George Mason at 7 p.m.
