When Kingston athletic director Dan Novick hired Ashley Driscoll in June to take command of the school's volleyball program, he continued a spike in the credentials of the sport's coaches around here.

Driscoll is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where she starred in volleyball. She has several similarities to another volleyball coach, Bremerton's Kim Renken. Both are from Colorado and were surface warfare officers in the Navy. She and Renken have plenty of playing experience.

Then we have Dragan Karadzic at Klahowya. Karadzic played in Chicago. He has ties to the highest national levels of the sport and has some interesting approaches to teaching it.

Driscoll, Renken (second year at Bremerton) and Karadzic (third year at Klahowya) are fairly recent additions to the local coaching fraternity that should strengthen the sport in Kitsap.
