ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy volleyball team will conclude its spring season Saturday when the Midshipmen play host to its annual spring tournament. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. in the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

Joining the host Mids this weekend will be Delaware State, Howard, Juniata, Temple and a local USA Volleyball club team. The six teams will compete in a round-robin tournament, with each match consisting of two sets played up to 25 points.

This weekend marks the fourth tournament Navy will have participated in this spring -- Duke, Temple, Towson were the others -- and the Mids are looking to continue what has already been deemed a successful season with another strong showing this weekend.

"I have been very pleased with the progress of our team this spring," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "In addition to having success on the court, the effort and attitude the team has displayed has been outstanding. The spring season is important to the overall development of a player, and we saw a number of players take great advantage of the opportunities they had this spring to do just that."

When Navy played host to its spring tournament one year ago, one of the highlights for everyone was watching the match between the Mids and Juniata. The subplot to the match was that it featured siblings on both sides of the net: Kristen Dickmann for Navy and Cassie Dickmann for Juniata. Thanks to receiving a detailed scouting report on the Juniata team from Kristen prior to the start of the match, Navy came out victorious in the contest.

Less than three weeks later, on May 5, 2008, Kristen Dickmann passed away in Bancroft Hall at age 19.

This year's tournament is being played in her memory.

"Kristen and her family constantly remain in our thoughts," said Schwob. "We think about her all of the time and she will always be a part of our program. She is sorely missed by all of us and dedicating this tournament to Kristen is just one more way for us to remember her."
