The Colgate University volleyball team recently combined community service and some off-season training at the annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk on March 8. The Raiders raised $2,200, which is $700 more than they rose a year ago.
"I hope that participating in the Utica Heart Run/Walk will remain a Colgate volleyball tradition," junior Katrina Zawojski (Palo Alto, Calif.) said. "It's a great way to get out of Hamilton and do something that benefits the wider community. It's also very invigorating running alongside teammates who are pushing you to the finish line. It's funny how just a three-mile run in the rain can remind you of why you love being an athlete."
The Raiders ranked fifth of all the teams entered in the event with the $2,200 in donations. They helped the local chapter of the American Heart Association surpass its goal of $1,100,000, as the event generated a total amount of $1,204,594 in donations.
