2007 Patriot League Volleyball Academic Honor Roll
Center Valley, Pa. - A total of 46 student-athletes make up the 2007 Patriot League Volleyball Academic Honor Roll, announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Wednesday. Six members of this year's academic honor roll recorded 4.0 grade-point averages during the fall semester, including Bucknell's Tessa Mendez and Rachel Rodriguez, Colgate's Sheila Giovannini, Holy Cross' Katie Fitzpatrick and Christine Strawson and Navy's Rachel Dougherty.
Dougherty was also named the 2007 Patriot League Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in November. Dougherty was tabbed a second-team academic All-American this year. The physics major has posted a 4.0 GPA during five of her seven semesters and during her one year of summer school. The four-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member was selected as one of 15 Bowman Scholars by the USNA for this academic year. With this award she will receive one year of schooling at the Naval Postgraduate School, receives early admission into the Navy's nuclear surface warfare community and has to complete an independent study project.
On the court, Dougherty ranked second in kills in both overall (4.50) and League only matches (4.96). The senior outside hitter was second in aces per game (0.54) in the Patriot League. The First-Team All-Patriot League selection became the fifth player during Navy's 17-year Division I era to record 1,000 career kills. She ended her career with 1,137 kills.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports.
