NFCA Division I All-Region
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Five Patriot League softball standouts have been selected to the Divison I All-Region Teams, announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday.
Patriot League champion Lehigh had three players make the list in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with junior catcher Liz Lucas and senior first baseman Julie Fernandez on the first team and senior shortstop Jen Colquhoun on the second team.
Army, which finished second to Lehigh in both the regular season and Patriot League Tournament, had a pair of selections in the Northeast Region with freshman pitcher Morgan Lashley and sophomore outfielder Amanda Nguyen both on the second team.
Each of the five players earned first-team All-Patriot League honors last week, with Colquhoun named the League's Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Lashley taking home the Pitcher and Rookie of the Year trophies.
Colquhoun, Lucas and Fernandez are leading the Mountain Hawks into the NCAA Regionals, which begin on Friday at No. 4 seed Oklahoma. Colquhoun and Fernandez have each put up oustanding senior seasons to cap memorable careers. Colquhoun is hitting .438 while setting a Patriot League single-season record with 131 total bases and also leading the way with 13 home runs, six triples, 49 runs scored and 48 RBIs, which ties with Fernandez for the top spot in the conference. Fernandez also leads the League with a .448 batting average, 74 hits and a Patriot League single-season record 22 doubles. She holds Patriot League career records for hits (262) and doubles (64) and is third all-time in batting average (.407). Colquhoun and Fernandez are tied for fourth in League history with 141 career RBIs. Lucas has batted .346 with five home runs and 36 RBIs this season.
Lashley has set six Patriot League single-season records in her freshman campaign, establishing marks for victories (33), innings (327), appearances (56), starts (51), complete games (37) and shutouts (11) in a workhorse season in the circle for the Black Knights. Nguyen batted .363 and finished second in the Patriot League with 19 stolen bases in her sophomore season. She has 140 hits in her first two seasons at West Point.
Lucas, Fernandez and Lashley were all named to the Patriot League Softball All-Tournament Team last week.
Fernandez earns All-Region recognition for the third time, previously making the first team as a freshman in 2009 and the second team following her sophomore season in 2010. The five selections match the most for the Patriot League since seven players were picked to the All-Region Team in 2006.
