Center Valley, Pa.--For the first time in program history, Army will host the Patriot League Softball Tournament. The Black Knights claimed the top seed and hosting duties, thanks to a doubleheader sweep at Colgate on Friday. Army finished the Patriot League season with a 15-5 mark, one game better than Lehigh's 14-6 Patriot League record.
It is the third time that Army (32-18) has finished with the top Patriot League record, but the first time since the Patriot League Tournament was moved to host sites in 2002. This season will mark the first time since 2002 that Lehigh (31-17) has not claimed the top seed and hosting duties. It is just the fourth time in program history that Lehigh has not been the top seed in the Patriot League Softball Tournament.
As the top seed, Army will reacquaint itself with its Friday opponent. The Black Knights will take on fourth-seeded Colgate (25-21, 8-12) when the tournament begins on Thursday. Second-seeded Lehigh will take on Bucknell (11-9, 24-17-1) in Thursday's other opening-round game. The double-elimination tournament will conclude on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
