Patriot League Softball Championship Central
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - It came down to the final day of the regular season, but Lehigh earned the right to host the 2014 Patriot League Softball Tournament with a 9-1 win Sunday at Army. The double-elimination event will be contested from May 8-10 on the Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Mountain Hawks (15-3), who enter the postseason riding a seven-game Patriot League win streak, will open the tournament against defending champion Army (9-9) at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday at Kaufman Field. Lehigh swept the Black Knights in the final series of the regular season.
The second game on Thursday will feature second-seeded Boston University (13-5) against Bucknell (10-8), the third seed at 2:35 p.m. Once again, the game will be played between two teams who finished the regular season going head-to-head. The Terriers took 2-of-3 from the Bison in Boston, Mass. over the final weekend, with Bucknell taking the third game to snap Boston University's 13-game winning streak.
The second day of action pits the winner's of the opening day in the first contest (10:35 a.m.), follow by the loser's from the opening day in an elimination game (1:05 p.m.). The loser of game three faces the winner of game four in another elimination contest (3:35 p.m.).
The championship will be held on May 10, with the winner of game three needing one victory and the winner of game five requiring two wins to claim the League title. The Patriot League champion advances to the NCAA Tournament.
