CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three accomplished Patriot League seniors received Capital One Academic All-District recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, with Army baseball standout Zach Price and Lehigh softball stars Jen Colquhoun and Julie Fernandez each recognized as first-team picks.
Price and Fernandez are both finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in their respective sports, while Colquhoun is a two-time Patriot League Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. All three are enjoying fine senior seasons while leading their teams to the top seed in upcoming Patriot League tournaments.
Price made the Academic All-District 1 squad for the third year in a row, and was selected to the first team for the first time. He leads the Patriot League with 41 runs scored, ranks fourth in the conference with 57 base hits and 13 stolen bases, lists fifth in the league with a .320 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage, and stands sixth with 24 walks. He currently ranks third all-time at Army with 164 runs scored, fourth in Academy history with 228 career base hits and tied for sixth with 48 stolen bases. The Patriot League's all-time walks leader (122), Price is a two-time all-conference selection. He has helped Army to an 18-2 League record, which included an unprecedented 17-game win streak to open the League schedule
Price maintains a 3.732 grade point average in Systems Engineering. He has been named to the Dean's List every semester since arriving at the Academy. Price has also been tabbed a Distinguished Cadet following each semester for maintaining a GPA of 3.67 or higher. He has earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll each of his first three seasons, and was selected to the inaugural All-Academic Team last spring.
Colquhoun and Fernandez each earned first-team status in District 2, with Colquhoun on the list for the third year in a row.
Colquhoun and Fernandez have directed Lehigh to an 18-2 record and the top seed in next week's Patriot League Softball Tournament by putting together brilliant senior seasons. Colquhoun, a three-time All-Patriot League selection, leads the Patriot League with 13 home runs and 47 runs batted in. The 13 home runs tied a school single-season record. Colquhoun is batting .442 on the season, and trails just Fernandez in the Patriot League in that category. Both players are tied for the league lead with 69 hits. Fernandez is already a three-time first team All-Patriot League selection, a two-time NFCA All-Region selection, the 2009 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the 2010 league Player of the Year. Fernandez currently leads the Patriot League and ranks tenth nationally with her .445 batting average. She has tied a school and league record with 21 doubles and holds the Lehigh and Patriot League career doubles record with 63. Fernandez also has 69 hits this season and 257 for her career, which ties her for the Lehigh and Patriot League career hit record.
Both student-athletes have also excelled in the classroom. Colquhoun owns a 3.77 grade point average as a Biochemistry major. A member of the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League team in 2011, Colquhoun is also a multi-year member of the Dean's List and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. An aspiring pediatrician, Fernandez owns a 3.33 GPA while majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience and minoring in Spanish. Fernandez is a multi-year member of both the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and also made the Academic All-Patriot League squad last season.
As first-team selections, all three honorees will move on to the ballot for consideration for Capital Academic All-America recognition later in the month.
