Lehigh Softball Takes Two From Bucknell

Lewisburg, PA - Lehigh picked up a pair of Patriot League victories on Saturday, defeating Bucknell 10-0 and 4-0. With the wins, Lehigh moves to 28-7 overall, 13-1 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell falls to 8-25 overall, 3-8 in the Patriot League.

In game one, Lehigh's pitching duo of Emily Ling and Kate Arico threw a combined three-hitter, while totaling eight strikeouts en route to the 10-0 victory.

Jessica Young did a majority of the damage for the Mountain Hawks, posting four hits in four plate appearances, while scoring two runs, and driving in a season high five runs. Edoho Awaih managed three hits and an RBI, Kelly Kliewer went 1-for-4 with two RBI, and a run scored, while Caroline Blount and Erin Hengemuhle also drove in a run each for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh scored two runs in the first inning as Young singled to score Awaih and Jenny Bender. The next round of Lehigh runs came in the third inning, as Young and Hengemuhle each slapped RBI hits. In the fourth inning, Young tripled to score Awaih and Stephanie Digneo. Lehigh managed a lone run in the fifth, an RBI single by Awaih, scoring pinch runner Ali Linsk. The final Lehigh runs came in the top of the sixth, as Young ripped her second double of the game, scoring Digneo. Caroline Blount added and RBI as she reached on an error, while Kliewer knocked in the tenth run of the game by grounding out and scoring Young.

Angela Stackhouse, Lauren Wible, and Kris Devore managed the three Bison hits, while starting pitcher Lauren Box yielded 13 hits and ten runs for her tenth loss of the season.

Game two played out much like game one. Lehigh used timely hitting, and clutch pitching for its second shutout of the afternoon.

Jessica Young completed a 7-of-8 afternoon by going 3-for-4 at the plate, with three RBI. Also picking up three hits for Lehigh was Stephanie Digneo. Digneo also went 3-for-4, scoring all four Lehigh runs. Starting pitching Jenny Bender went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Shana Treon, Kelly Kliewer, and Elizabeth Gripp managed hits.

With her five hit afternoon, Digneo stands just seven hits shy of tying the Patriot League's all-time hits mark set by current Lehigh assistant coach Kim Miller.

Bender went the distance on the mound for her ninth win of the season. Bender struck out six Bison, while allowing just five hits.

Julie Williams took the loss for Bucknell, while Meredith Gill, Angela Stackhouse, Kris Devore, Jenna Fitch, and Jill Pompeii picked up the hits for Bucknell.

The Mountain Hawks and Bison return to action Sunday at noon in another Patriot League doubleheader.
