With series wins this weekend, Lehigh, Army and Colgate clinched berths into the Patriot League Softball Championship. Holy Cross currently occupies the final playoff spot with a 5-11 mark in League play. Rounding out the PL standings are Bucknell (6-10) and Lafayette (2-14).
The Mountain Hawks took all four games from Holy Cross to improve to 14-2 on the year and have the inside track for the regular-season title and right to host the PL tourney heading into the final weekend of the season. The Black Knights(12-4) earned three victories over Bucknell, while the Raiders (11-5) garnered a series sweep over Lafayette.
Lehigh posted a 5-3 win in the series opener and continued to roll with 6-1, 12-2 and 6-1 victories over the Crusaders. Kate Arico earned a pair of wins on the weekend to improve to 12-1 on the season, while freshman Heather Hamasaki moved above .500 on the season with a 8-7 mark.
Colgate scored 35 runs in four games en route to the sweep of the Leopards. The Raiders won the series opener 12-0, thanks in part to five homers. CU then added a 9-3 win in the nightcap. Sunday, Colgate posted 6-1 and 8-4 decisions over Lafayette. Junior outfielder Dorothy Donaldson became the Patriot League career leader in home runs (32) and walks (64).
Army took three-of-four from Bucknell this weekend to move into fourth-place. The Black Knights earned a 12-3 win in the series opener before falling 7-6 in the nightcap. The loss snapped Army's 10-game winning streak. Sunday, Army returned to its winning ways with 12-8 and 5-4 victories.
