Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh took two games from Lafayette Saturday afternoon, 15-1 and 5-2. With the wins the Mountain Hawks move to 21-6 overall, 9-1 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette falls to 4-18 overall, 1-7 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh pounded the Leopards in game one, posting 15 runs on 17 hits. Lehigh sent 13 batters to the plate in fourth inning and plated nine runs.
Shana Treon and Stephanie Digneo each smacked three hits, with Treon picking up a single, a double, and a triple. Jenny Bender went the distance on the mound for her eighth win of the season. Bender also continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and four RBI. Also picking up hits for Lehigh were Edoho Awaih, Jessica Young, Kelly Kliewer, Erin Hengemuhle, Elizabeth Gripp, and Caroline Blount.
The Leopards were plagued by poor fielding, committing three errors in the contest. Starting pitcher Jackie Fitzgerald lasted only 3.1 innings, allowing ten runs and 12 hits.
Game two started out much like game one. The Mountain Hawks plated two quick runs to take a 2-0 lead. Lafayette battled back but was only able to plate two runs for the entire contest. Lehigh would go on to win 5-2 behind clutch hitting and a 13 strikeout performance from Emily Ling.
Xochitl Mota managed three hits, Mary Wieder two, and Shana Treon, Stephanie Digneo, Elizabeth Gripp added one each in the winning cause. Digneo and Wider added two RBI each.
Lafayette managed only two hits en route to its second loss of the afternoon.
Lehigh and Lafayette return to action Sunday at noon.
