After posting a series sweep of Bucknell, defending regular-season champion Lehigh took the lead in the Patriot League softball standings with an 10-2 record in its first three series. The Mountain Hawks are one game up on Army, which posted a series sweep at Colgate, for the right to host the PL Championship. Colgate (7-5) and Holy Cross (5-7) currently occupy the final two playoff spots. Rounding out the standings are Bucknell (3-9) and Lafayette (2-10).
Army, which has won nine-straight games, posted 9-7 and 3-0 victories over the Raiders, who are the defending PL Tournament champions Saturday before notching 5-0 and 5-3 decisions Sunday afternoon. Shortstop Lauren Gobar was 3-for-7 with three runs batted in Sunday, while senior pitcher Ashlie Christian earned complete-game victories on each day.
Lehigh claimed a series sweep of its own with wins over Bucknell Friday and Saturday. All scoring was done in the opening frame as the Mountain Hawks earned a 2-1 victory in the opener Friday. In the nightcap, freshman Heather Hamasaki fanned 14 and drove in a run as LU notched a 6-3 decision. The Lehigh pitching continued to dominate Saturday with 3-1 and 4-0 victories.
Holy Cross took three-of-four from Lafayette this weekend to move into fourth-place in the PL standings. The Crudaders posted a pair of shutout victories Saturday with 2-0 and 1-0 decisions. Senior Nicole Vitti blasted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to lift HC to the 1-0 win in the nightcap Saturday. Holy Cross and the Leopards split Sunday with HC earning a 9-3 victory in the opener before falling to LC, 10-8, in the nightcap.
