Lehigh Softball Stretches Win Streak To Nine With Sweep Of Army

Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh concluded a four game sweep of Army Sunday afternoon at Kaufman Field, dropping Army 3-2 and 9-5. With the wins Lehigh improves to 17-5 overall, 5-0 in the Patriot League, while Army falls to 10-11 overall, 3-5 in the league.

In game one, Jessica Young went 2-for-3 at the place with an RBI, while teammates Shana Treon, Xochitl Mota, Stephanie Digneo, Jenny Bender, Kelly Kliewer, and Erin Hengemuhle each notched singles. Mota, Digneo, and Hengemuhle scored the runs for the Mountain Hawks, with Bender adding an RBI.

Emily Ling went the distance for her ninth win of the season and second in two days. Ling struck out six Black Knights, while allowing five hits and two runs, none of which were earned.

For Army, five different players notched hits, including Lisa Huntington who went 1-for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

With the score tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, the Lehigh bats game alive. The Mountain Hawks used five hits to score seven runs and was helped by two Black Knights' errors. The big blow of the inning came of the bat of Kelly Kliewer. Kliewer doubled, scoring Jessica Young and Jenny Bender.

Offensively for the Mountain Hawks, three players smacked two hits, including Shana Treon, who laced two triples. Also providing a spark for Lehigh was Elizabeth Gripp. Gripp went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Danielle Resovich earned the win to improve to 3-0 for the Mountain Hawks. Resovich went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs and eight hits, while striking out one.

For Army, Lauren Gobar went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, Celia Nowicki posted a 2-for-3 afternoon with an RBI and a run scored, and Ashlie Christian was the hard-luck loser for the Black Knights on the mound. Christian went the distance, allowing eight hits and nine runs, however no runs were earned.
