Hamilton, NY -The Holy Cross softball team played its second double header of the weekend against Colgate. The Raiders defeated the Crusaders in both games of the day.
In the first game, Colgate defeated Holy Cross, 4-3 in seven innings of play. Natalie Rawson doubled to score Dorothy Donaldson and Erica Anderson, who was in as a pinch runner for Danielle Soule in the fourth inning. Holy Cross got out of the inning with a double play. Holy Cross collected two runs of its own in the fifth inning to tie the game at two. Megan Lally (Lake Forest, CA) singled down the left field line and advanced to second on a fielding error. Mary Beth Ryan (Holden, MA) and Lindsey MacNeil (Plymouth, NH) scored on the error to even the score.
Michelle Greene (Woburn, MA) singled to drive in Ria Galiano (Pompton Plains, NJ) for the Crusaders final run of the game. Donaldson hit a home run to tie the game at three before the Raiders drove in another run on a double by Elena Isaac. Nicole Vitti (Stamford, CT) pitched 6.1 innings for Holy Cross, striking out three.
In the second game of the day and the final game of the four game series, Colgate defeated Holy Cross, 10-0. A seven run third inning clinched the win for the Raiders. Colgate posted three runs in the first inning. Soule hit a home run in the first to get the Raiders on board. Two more runs were scored in the inning before a seven run third inning clinched the win and ended the game after five innings. Greene and MacNeil combined for four innning of pitching for the Crusaders.
Holy Cross returns to action Wednesday, March 31st when they travel to the University of Rhode Island. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m
