Center Valley, Pa.—Holy Cross senior softball player Mandy Correale has been selected as a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award announced today. Thirty NCAA softball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were named as candidates for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence; classroom, character, community and competition.
Correale led last year's Crusaders on the field at third base, starting in 46 games, and in the batter's box with a .265 batting average. She was named to the 2009 All-Patriot League second team at third base and to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I team. Active in the Holy Cross community, Correale serves on the Executive Board of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteers with Best Buddies.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of classroom, character, community and competition.
Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award winner at the NCAA Women's College World Series in June.
