2011 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Team

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A total of seven Patriot League women’s soccer student-athletes were named to the All-Mid-Atlantic team, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. Patriot League champion Army tied with League runner-up Navy with two selections apiece, with Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh rounding out the list with one each.

Lafayette goalkeeper Lauren Smedley was the only student-athlete of the seven to earn first-team honors, while Army’s Kim An, Jillian Kinter of Colgate, Lehigh’s Genna Pepe, and Ashlynn Soellner of Navy were named to the second team. Army’s Molly McGuigan and Navy’s Kate Herren earned third-team honors.

An and McGuigan were two important contributors to Army’s run to the 2011 Patriot League Championship. Both sophomores, An led the League with 10 goals and finished second with 21 points, while McGuigan was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Both garnered First-Team All-Patriot League laurels.

Similarly, Navy’s march through the regular season and advancement to the League title match against the Black Knights came largely in part because of the play of Herren and Soellner. A senior defender, Herren tied for second in the League with six assists and was honored during the season three times as the BRINE Defensive Player of the Week. Soellner, a sophomore, finished in fourth in the League with six goals and tied for fourth with 12 points. Both joined An and McGuigan as First-Team All-Leaguers.

Kinter, a junior, was finished the season leading the League in points (23) and assists (seven) while taking second with eight goals. She was named First-Team All-League and voted the League’s Offensive Player of the Year by the head coaches. Kinter averaged League-bests in shots (3.22), points (1.28) and assists per game (0.39). She helped lead the Raiders to the regular-season title and hosting duties for the League Tournament.

Smedley was brilliant in goal for Lafayette, which won nine games and advanced to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2001. A junior, Smedley was named First-Team All-League and was voted Goalkeeper of the Year by the head coaches after playing every minute of the season for the Leopards, posting a 9-6-2 mark with eight shutouts.

Pepe, a senior, appeared in all 17 games for Lehigh and scored two goals for four points. She was named First-Team All-League after the regular season a year garnering second-team honors in 2010.
