CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Continuing in the spirit of the Patriot League, five institutions had both their men's and women's soccer squads honored with Team Academic Awards for the 2011-12 year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Teams must post a collective grade-point average of 3.0 in order to be honored.
The men's and women's soccer teams from American, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh were all honored, giving the League five schools on the list of 152 that had both squads honored.
A total of 726 college teams were recognized by the NSCAA, including 504 women's squads and 223 on the men's side.
The highest team GPA of the 10 squads belongs to the Lafayette women (3.45), followed closely behind by the American women at 3.44. Lafayette led the men's list and came in third overall with a 3.39.
Rounding out the women's list was Bucknell (3.35), Lehigh (3.32) and Colgate (3.01).
On the men's side, Bucknell was third with a 3.30 GPA, Lehigh fourth with a 3.16 and Colgate fifth with a 3.02.
