Patriot League Women's Soccer Semifinal Results
Nov. 3, 2006 Lewisburg, Pa. - Sunday's 2006 Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship game is set with No. 2 Navy taking on No. 4 Colgate. The Mids topped No. 3 Lehigh on two second-half goals, 2-0, to advance to the championship game. Meanwhile, for the second-straight season the host school did not survive past day one as the Raiders upset defending Patriot League Champion and No. 1 Bucknell with two first-half goals. In game one, Patriot League Co-Defensive Player of the Year Shelly Moeller got offensive, scoring her seventh goal of the season on a headball off a corner kick from teammate Cassie Barbaresi with 61:31 expired in the contest. That goal was really all the Mids needed as Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Lizzie Barnes was a wall in net, turning away all six shots she faced. However, 10:02 after Moeller's tally, Kristen Laraway netted her fourth of the season, unassisted with a shot from the far right, picking the top left corner to give Navy a final 2-0 advantage. In game two, the Raiders stunned the host-Bison with two quick goals by Jillian Arnault and Franny Iacuuzi. Bucknell did make a game of it late, pulling within one with 8:52 remaining in the contest as Krista Lee Gentile directed home a pass from Jen Dervarics. Colgate's Carly Souza had to make a late stop with 20 seconds left in the contest on a shot that was fired along the ground. Sunday's Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship Game between No. 2 Navy and No. 4 Colgate will begin at 1 p.m.
