Center Valley, Pa.--After making 19 saves and posting a pair of shutouts against nationally-ranked foes Dayton and Miami (Fla.), Navy senior goalkeeper and 2009 team captain Beth Reed was one 18 players nationally selected as a Primetime Performer of the Week by CollegeSoccer360.com.

Reed, who on Tuesday was named the Patriot League-BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week, played an instrumental role over the weekend as the Midshipmen women went 1-0-1, producing a pair of major results to capture the inaugural Hurricane Cup - the second regular-season tournament title for Navy in as many weekends.

"Beth was rock-solid in goal for us all weekend," said Navy head coach Carin Gabarra. "She did well to get to the numerous crosses in the box, had great positioning on all the long-range shots and has really enabled our defenders to feel confident and strong with her solid play."

On Friday, against a Dayton team picked to win the Atlantic-10 and ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region entering the week, Reed made a then-career high eight saves in a scoreless draw, keeping the Flyers off the scoreboard for the duration of 110-minute contest.

Less than 48 hours later, the athletic, 5-foot-7 netminder was at it again - this time stopping a personal-best 11 shots as Navy made a 3rd-minute goal from Carissa Youker stand up against ACC foe Miami (Fla.), who entered the week ranked 22nd nationally according to TopDrawerSoccer.com

The win was the Mids' first in nine tries against ACC opponents and came despite being outshot 25-3 by the Hurricanes.

For her efforts, Reed was named to the 12-member Hurricane Cup All-Tourney Team - one week after receiving similar recognition at the annual Navy Soccer Invitational, where she registered eight saves and collected a pair of victories.

"We have never had back-to-back results against opponents of this caliber, and Beth is certainly one of the biggest reasons we were successful," added Gabarra. "Her leadership off the field has been key to our focus and mental preparation."

In the early-goings of '09, the Indianapolis native has made a seamless transition into the No. 1 goalkeeping role. Through six games, she has produced a 0.34 goals-against average, posted three shutouts and stopped 27-of-29 attempts on goal.

CollegeSoccer360.com honors the top-18 performers around the nation for their efforts over the previous week (18 to resemble a road travel squad). Honorees are selected based on any of the following criteria: the rank and quality of their opponents, clutch individual performances and overcoming adversity.
