Center Valley, Pa.--With its pair of victories over the weekend, the 4-0-0 Navy women's soccer team is ranked 7th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, released Tuesday morning.
Navy, the only Patriot League program to garner recognition in this week's regional polls, maintained its unblemished mark with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson (6-0) and Boise State (2-1) at the 10th annual Navy Soccer Invitational this past weekend in Annapolis.
The Mids have been clicking on all cylinders in the early going, outscoring their first four foes by a combined 17-3 margin.
Navy has started the season 4-0 twice in the last four seasons, but standing in the way of that season-opening win streak is a difficult string of matches which begins this weekend in Coral Gables, Fla. at the University of Miami Soccer Tournament.
There, the Midshipmen will take on a formidable Dayton squad (2-0-1) in a neutral-site match Friday at 5:00 pm. The Flyers, who won 15 games out of the Atlantic-10 a year ago and currently hold the NSCAA's No. 1 spot in the Mid-Atlantic region, have started strong with wins over Loyola Chicago (1-0) and Middle Tennessee State (4-0), as well as a 1-1 draw with nationally-ranked Auburn.
On Sunday, Navy tangles with the tournament host and 2008 NCAA College Cup participants Miami (2-1-0) on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
The host Hurricanes are the eighth-ranked squad in the very competitive NSCAA Southeast Region after following up a season-opening 1-0 loss to now-No.6 Florida with pair of convincing wins over Florida Gulf Coast (3-0) and Ball State (5-1).
