Center Valley, Pa. - Navy's Lizzie Barnes, the 2008 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is one of 86 women's soccer student-athletes named to this year's Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Barnes heads up the list after posting a 4.0 grade-point average in computer science and information technology in the fall term. The senior from New Orleans, La., was the 2008 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and a finalist for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the women's soccer division. Barnes is one of nine student-athletes to earn a grade-point average of 4.0 or better in the fall term. Another Mid, junior Beth Reed earned a 4.0 in mechanical engineering, while American junior Kelly McLaughlin earned a 4.0 in international business. Army's Elizabeth Betterbed has the highest grade-point average of all women's soccer student-athletes; the junior earned a 4.28 grade-point average in mechanical engineering.

Bucknell had a trio of student-athletes earn a 4.0 grade-point average: junior biology major Chelsea Brinkman, junior psychology major Lauren Stoller and undeclared sophomore Rosemary Walker. Colgate senior Johanna Johnson earned a 4.0 in psychology, and Lehigh junior Natalie Hojnacki rounded out the list with a 4.0 in finance.

Bucknell placed 20 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll, the most of any Patriot League institution. American tallied 18 selections, while Lafayette added 17.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
