Patriot League Sets Sail

The 2006-07 rowing season is under way as three of the five Patriot League schools have competed this fall. Bucknell, Colgate and Lehigh have each tested the waters with the Bison and Raiders competing at the Head of the Genesee and the Mountain Hawks facing Delaware.

This year marks the third season of Patriot League rowing. The season will culminate at the 2007 Patriot League Championship on April 29 in Worcester, Mass., on Lake Quinsigamond. Navy was the team champion in the inaugural year (2005), while Bucknell took the cup in 2006.

Bucknell Bucknell's varsity four won the head race at the Head of the Genesee last Sunday as the only Bison boat to compete...The boat registered a time of 18:30.34 to beat out a pair of crews from Syracuse, which took second and third....The 3.1-mile event took place on the Genesee River.

Colgate Colgate opened their season at the Head of the Genesee with a third and sixth-place finish in the Open Four and Open Eight, respectively....In the Open Eight, Colgate's A boat finished with an overall combined time of 31:47.95....The crew posted the fifth fastest time in the afternoon clocking 4:49.82 for the 1500-meter course...The Colgate B boat posted a time of 18:23 in the morning head race...In the Open Four the Raiders finished third with an overall combined time of 35:29.24.

Holy Cross Holy Cross will open its season on Oct. 14 at the New Hampshire Championship Regatta.

Lehigh Although the Mountain Hawks did not compete last week, they are not new to the season having competed at Delaware on Sept. 23...The Varsity Women's 8 race proved to be a 16-minute battle with Delaware barely edging out Lehigh by .11 seconds...Lehigh's 2nd and novice eights defeated Delaware's 2nd 8 by 57 and 26 seconds respectively.

Navy The Mids will begin the 2006-07 season on Oct. 14 at the Navy Day Regatta.
