Despite four solid years running distance for York Suburban's track and cross country teams, Katie Johnescu knew she wasn't going to run in college. After all, the former Trojan will soon be a sophomore at Colgate, where the academics are challenging, especially for a biology major that hopes to go on to medical school.

But, Johnescu still wanted to compete in sports as a freshman and decided to pick one she had never tried before when she walked on the rowing team.

And she loves it.

Still, that begs the question. Why rowing?
