Center Valley, Pa. Seventeen Patriot League Rowers were named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), including eight from Navy, five from Bucknell and four from Colgate.
To be eligible for the award, rowers must be of at least sophomore standing in the classroom, maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and compete in at least 75-percent of the team's races during the spring season.
Navy's Diane Cote and Fiona McFarland were both included on the CRCA National Scholar-Athletes list for the second year in a row. First-time honorees for Navy were Madeline Boe, Kerry Hannon, Catherine Ortman, Daphne Ponce, Sarah Roberts and Megan Selbach-Allen.
For Bucknell, the 2007 Patriot League Champion, Sophie Bird, Meredith Henry, Laura Roberts, Susan Shadle and Jennie Trayes all earned National Scholar-Athlete status.
Colgate's honorees included Kinsey Carlson, Sarah Kruse, Ande Reisman and Meredith Remmer.
The seventeen CRCA National Scholar-Athletes are the most for the Patriot League over the last three years, having had two in 2005 and four in 2006.
