Center Valley, Pa. - Eleven student-athletes were named to the 2008 All-Patriot League Team, all of whom participated in the varsity eight race at the 2008 Patriot League Rowing Championship that took place on April 27 on the Cooper River in Camden County, N.J. Bucknell placed a League-high four student-athletes on the all-star squad as a result of winning the first varsity eight race at the Patriot League Championship. Navy had three student-athletes earn All-Patriot League status, while Colgate had two and both Holy Cross and Lehigh had one.

The composition of the All-Patriot League rowing team is based on the team's finish in the first varsity eight race at the Patriot League Championship. The first-place team is allowed three rowers and one coxswain, the second-place boat is allowed three rowers and the third-place boat can place two rowers on the All-Patriot League team. Both fourth and fifth-place finishers are allowed one rower on the All-Patriot League team.

The finish in this year's first varsity eight race was, in order, Bucknell, Navy, Colgate, Holy Cross and Lehigh.

Bucknell's All-Patriot League selections were junior Jeweliet Yost and seniors Sophie Bird, Katherine Brewster-Duffy and Jennie Trayes. Yost repeated as the coxswain selection on the All-Patriot League Team as Bucknell won its third-straight Patriot League Championship. Brewster-Duffy (2007 and 2008) and Trayes (2006 and 2008) are both two-time All-Patriot League honorees as well, while Bird was honored for the first time in her career. The Bison claimed Patriot League Boat of the Year honors for the third year in a row with its win in the first varsity eight race with a time of 6:51.65 and won the overall Patriot League Championship title for the third-consecutive season.

Navy's first varsity eight boat came in second at the championship in a time of 7:06.51, allowing the Mids to place senior Fiona McFarland, junior Kerry Hannon and sophomore Meredith Meehan on the All-Patriot League squad. McFarland became the League's first three-time All-Patriot League selection. The first-ever All-Patriot League Team in the sport of rowing was named in 2006. Hannon earned All-Patriot League status in both 2006 and 2008, while Meehan was a first-time honoree. Navy Head Coach Mike Hughes was honored as the Patriot League Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the Patriot League Championship. He was also named Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2005.

Sophomore Vicky Hulit and junior Meredith Remmer were Colgate's representatives on the All-Patriot League Team following a third-place finish in the first varsity eight competition (7:13.21). Hulit has earned All-Patriot League recognition two-straight years and Remmer was honored for the first time.

Holy Cross finished fourth in the first varsity eight race in a time of 7:17.50 and named junior Malgorzata Smas to the All-Patriot League Team for the first time in her career.

For Lehigh, freshman Jennifer Lance was tabbed an All-Patriot League selection after the Mountain Hawks' fifth-place showing in the first varsity eight race in a time of 7:25.22.

The overall finish at the 2008 Patriot League Championship was Bucknell (27 points), Navy (27), Holy Cross (15), Colgate (13) and Lehigh (7). While Bucknell and Navy tied for first in overall points, Bucknell was deemed the champion due to its first-place finish in the varsity eight race. The Patriot League Championship consists of three events - Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Eight.
