Worcester, Mass. - Bucknell won the second annual Patriot League Women's Rowing Championship with 28 points on Sunday in Worcester, Mass., on Lake Quinsigamond. The Bison finished first in both the first varsity eight and varsity four to sail to their first-ever women's rowing championship. Last year's champion, Navy, came in second with 26 points, while Colgate (17), Lehigh (11) and Holy Cross (8), rounded out the field.

Bucknell won the first varsity eight race in a time of 6:39.09 to be named the Patriot League Boat of the Year. In a vote of the League's five head coaches, Bucknell's Steve Kish was named Patriot League Coach of the Year. The 2006 Patriot League All-League team will be announced later in the week.

The members of the Patriot League Boat of the Year from Bucknell were: Kelly Henkler, Jennie Trayes, Kate Brewster-Duffy, Christine Drasba, Brittany Kaplan, Page Kannor, Lauren Olsen, Sophie Bird and Coral Swartz.

In the first varsity race Navy finished second with Colgate, Lehigh and Holy Cross following suit. The Mids took the second varsity race in a time of 6:46.35, while the Bison crossed the finish line second. Colgate, Lehigh and Holy Cross finished third, fourth and fifth respectively, in the second varsity eight race.

The Bison were also winners in the varsity four event with a time of 7:38.59. Navy was the runner-up in that race, followed by Holy Cross, Colgate and Lehigh.

The winning second varsity eight team consisted of Navy's Michael Hrenko, Cate Ortman, Julie Reichel, Gretchen Driessnack, Maggie Hollyfield, Melinda Parrish, Madeline Boe, Darray Hunt and Kate DePooter.

The Bison boat that finished first in the varsity four race was manned by Sarah Wohlman, Cara Cox-Steiner, Julie Curtis, Amanda Gallina and Lisa Patel.

An overall point total decided the winner of the championship with the point breakdown going 5-4-3-2-1 for the Varsity Four, 10-8-6-4-2 for the Second Varsity Eight and 15-12-9-6-3 for the First Varsity Eight.
