Camden County, N.J.-- The Bucknell women's rowing team won its fourth consecutive Patriot League title Sunday morning on the Cooper River. The Bison swept the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four races as it piled up a record-tying 30 team points. Navy was second with 24 points as it was the runner-up finisher in each of the three championship races. Bison head coach Stephen Kish was awarded his third Patriot League Coach of the Year honor, while the Bucknell varsity eight was named Boat of the Year for the fourth straight year.

Holy Cross came in third place with 16 points, followed by Colgate and Lehigh, with nine points each. The event consisted of a varsity four and second varsity eight race in addition to the varsity eight. Bucknell and Navy finished in the top two spots in each race, with the Bison winning all three.

Bucknell won the varsity eight race in a time of 6:46.06, which was nearly five seconds better than its championship time a year ago. The Bison finished first in that race for the fourth year in a row, and the Bucknell varsity eight claimed the Boat of the Year honors that come with the victory for the fourth straight season. Navy came in second in the varsity eight in a time of 6:50.21, a time that would have won the race last year. Holy Cross was third (7:04.55), followed by Colgate (7:10.04) and Lehigh (7:24.39).

The Bison built an early lead after taking the first two races of the day. Bucknell captured the varsity four in a time of 7:45.40, followed by Navy at 7:48.18. Colgate (8:05.86) was third, followed by Lehigh (8:21.68) and Holy Cross (8:37.59). Bucknell claimed the second varsity eight race in a time of 6:57.07. Navy was in second with a time of 7:01.97, while Holy Cross (7:18.89) and Lehigh (7:29.35) rounded out the finishers. Colgate did not field a second varsity eight.

Bucknell also won two non-scoring events, claiming novice eight and the second novice eight.

The event was scored on a scaled system, with the point breakdown going 15-12-9-6-3 for the varsity eight, 10-8-6-4-2 for the second varsity eight and 5-4-3-2 for the varsity four.

Bucknell has now earned four of the five all-time Patriot League Rowing Championships, with Navy claiming the other title in 2005.

Bucknell's Stephen Kish was selected as the Patriot League Coach of the Year, receiving the honor for the third time in the past four seasons.

The 2009 All-Patriot League Team will be announced this coming week. The All-Patriot League Team is made up of 11 student-athletes, with at least one representative from each school, and is based on how each school finished in the Varsity Eight race. Bucknell will have four representatives (three rowers, one coxswain), Navy will have three rowers, Holy Cross will have two rowers and both Colgate and Lehigh will have one rower
