Patriot League to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sport Day

Center Valley, Pa.--Wednesday marks the 24th celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day. This year's NGWSD theme is "Stay Strong, Play On." Thousands of sports educators, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and fans will participate in the commemoration of NGWSD, and the Patriot League is proud to be a part of the national celebration.

All eight Patriot League institutions will participate in the celebration with upcoming events. On Saturday, Colgate and Lehigh will hold celebratory events. Colgate will celebrate the event in conjunction with Pink Zone, the WBCA's annual breast cancer awareness initiative. Colgate will also conduct a student giveaway during the Raiders' 2 p.m. women's basketball game against Army. Lehigh will host Girl Scout Night when the Mountain Hawks' women's basketball team takes on American at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Bucknell will host American in women's basketball. During the game, the Bison will host celebrate NGWSD in addition to holding its Think Pink night. Bucknell will also hold its Library Campaign Night. Three days later, American and Army will recognize NGWSD. The Eagles and Black Knights will both hold their Think Pink events during afternoon women's basketball games. Lafayette will also conduct its Think Pink recognition during its celebration of NGWSD. The Leopards will do so during their Feb. 17 women's basketball game against Navy.

Navy will be the final Patriot League team to hold its NGWSD celebration, doing so on Saturday, Feb. 27. During the Mids' 7 p.m. women's basketball game against Colgate, Navy will hold Scouts Night and Emergency Night.

Holy Cross has already held its celebration of NGWSD during the Crusaders' nationally televised women's basketball game against American on Feb. 24. The Crusaders hosted a "White Out" during the school's Pack the House Challenge.
