2007 Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll
Center Valley, Pa. - Lehigh's Christy Smith was named the 2007 Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was one of 72 student-athletes listed on the 2007 Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll, announced Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich Friday. Also included on this year's academic honor roll were Bucknell's Lauren Kremer and Erin Weinstein, who each earned a 4.0 grade-point average during the spring semester. Smith heads into her senior year with a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in industrial engineering. Smith, a two-sport athlete, was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times in the sport of field hockey and twice in the sport of women's lacrosse. The Mountain Hawk midfielder scored 22 goals to go along with 11 assists this past spring, starting all 17 of Lehigh's games this season, including one in the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Second-Team All-Patriot League selection scooped up 31 ground balls, won 24 draw controls and caused three turnovers. This year marks the fifth time Lehigh has laid claim to the Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In addition to Smith's award Jill Altshuler was honored twice (1995 and 1996), Elizabeth Brodbeck (1998) once and Barrie Cominsky (2005) once. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's six winter or 10 spring championship sports. A total of 989 student-athletes were named to the Patriot League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, which includes the sports of men and women's basketball, men and women's swimming and diving, men and women's indoor track and field, baseball, golf, men and women's lacrosse, rowing, men and women's outdoor track and field, softball and men and women's tennis.
