Lehigh's Dykstra on Doorstep
June 18, 2009 Mendham graduate Lauren Dykstra will be in Maryland on Aug. 1 when she and 64 other athletes nationwide will be competing for a spot on the Women's Lacrosse U.S. Development Team. Dykstra, who graduated Mendham in 2007, just finished her sophomore campaign at Lehigh and earned the honor of being selected Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 67 goals in 17 games. "It would mean a lot for Lehigh itself. It would look better for the school," Dykstra said. "It would be a great opportunity to get to practice with the best players around the country." The developmental team is one step below the U.S. Elite team, which competes on the World Cup level. The developmental team serves as a means for a player to gain experience on the international level and develop the skills necessary to compete on the elite level.
