CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Eight Patriot League women's lacrosse student-athletes, including five from League champion Loyola University Maryland, were honored as All-Region selections by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Monday.

Loyola placed four players on the first team in the Mid-Atlantic Region as senior Marlee Paton, juniors Annie Thomas and Taryn VanThof and sophomore Maddy Lesher all made the top list. Junior Hannah Schmitt made the second team from Loyola along with Lafayette senior Ana White. Boston University senior Christie Hart earned second-team status in the Northeast Region, while Navy junior Loren Generi received the same distinction in the South Region.

Three of Loyola's first-team selections earned Patriot League major awards in 2014, as Paton was named Midfield Player of the Year, Thomas won the Offensive Player of the Year honor and Lesher claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award. Paton earned her fourth All-Region honor and finished with 49 goals and 26 assists for the season. Thomas recorded 40 goals and 39 assists for the year, while VanThof finished with 31 goals, nine assists and a single-season League record 122 draw controls. Lesher led the way for the Greyhound defense, while Schmitt notched 39 goals and 10 assists.

Loyola led all schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region with five selections on the two teams, while Johns Hopkins, Penn and Princeton each placed four on the two squads. The Greyhounds also led the way with four first-team honorees, while Johns Hopkins had three.

White had 35 goals, 15 assists and 101 draw controls in her senior season for Lafayette, and ended her career as the Patriot League leader in both draw controls (398) and caused turnovers (125). Hart was a leader for the BU defense, while Generi had a big season for Navy with 46 goals, 34 assists and 111 draw controls.

Each of the eight All-Region honorees received first-team All-Patriot League honors last month.

The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2014. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday.
