Annapolis, Md. — Caitlin Mandrin Hill and Kathy Young each scored five goals, and Jasmine DePompeo had eight points to lead Navy past Quinnipiac 20-5 Saturday in the NCAA Play-In Game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Navy earns a bid to the NCAA Tournament and will learn its seed and opponent at 7:30 p.m. Sunday during the NCAA Selection Show, which will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
The Mids (15-5) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes, and after Quinnipiac (13-5), the NEC champion, cut it to 4-2, Navy went on a roll.
Navy led 7-3 at halftime and scored 13 second-half goals to put the Bobcats away.
DePompeo, who had nine points in the Patriot League Championship game last Saturday, moved her season total to 98 points, which ranks fourth on the all-time list. She finished with three goals and five assists.
Her second goal of the game made it 6-2 and Navy extended it to 7-3 when Jill Coughlin scored with 1.9 seconds left in the half. Young and Mandrin Hill scored to open the second half, which Navy outscored Quinnipiac 13-2.
The Patriot League is now 4-0 in NCAA Play-In Games with Navy having won two of them. The Mids set a new record for goals by a Patriot League team in the NCAA Play-In Game with their 20 Saturday. Colgate scored 19 in a shootout against Marist in 2008.
