Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Release - 2.19.10
Feb. 19, 2010
Center Valley, Pa. - Every Patriot League school hits the field this week. Lehigh and Lafayette were the only programs not to have played a game over the last seven days, and they will open their seasons on Saturday. Navy, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross and American had already begun their slates last week. Colgate (1-0) opened the defense of its 2009 Patriot League Championship with a 10-9 victory at Stony Brook. The road does not get any easier for the Raiders, as they travel to sixth-ranked Syracuse Friday at 4 p.m. It is the 12th meeting between the programs, with Syracuse holding an 11-0 advantage. The two last met in 2008, with the Orange posting a 24-6 win. Navy (2-0) has two more home games this week before hitting the road for the first time this season. On Friday the Mids will entertain Robert Morris at 7 p.m. in Annapolis, Md., before welcoming Longwood to town on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will be held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Senior Erin Rawlick has led the Mids' attack in their first two games, accumulating nine goals and nine assists for 18 points. She scored 55 times last season and finished with 92 points. American (0-1) also hits the road this weekend for a weekend tilt against a nationally-ranked opponent. The Eagles visit No. 16 Ohio State on Saturday at 1 p.m. After falling behind 7-1 and 11-5 to Drexel on Wednesday, American roared back with a second-half comeback but ultimately fell short, 11-10. Lauren Schoenberger scored four times and added two assists in the game. Both Lehigh Valley schools begin their seasons on Saturday at 1 p.m. at home. Lafayette opens the 2010 slate hosting St. Joseph's. The Leopards are looking forward after a 2-15 campaign in 2009 and an 0-5 record in the League. Lehigh entertains Mount St. Mary's in its 2010 opener. The two teams met last season, with the Mountain Hawks emerging with an 11-10 win. After its season-opening 15-2 loss to No. 18 Penn State, Bucknell (0-1) hosts Davidson in Lewisburg, Pa. on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Bison will be eager to capture a victory at home, as they will hit the road after for their next three games.
