Center Valley, Pa. - American University seniors Christine Fingerhuth and Anne van Erp were honored as Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans on Monday, adding one more accolade to their already storied careers. Fingerhuth was named to the first team while van Erp was a third-team selection.
Fingerhuth becomes the fifth Patriot Leaguer to earn first-team All-America honors, with each student-athlete coming from American. The Chilean led American to its eighth straight Patriot League Championship and was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Her 17 goals this season were sixth-most in school history while her 37 points rank 10th in American annals. Fingerhuth was also named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week a record four straight times from September 27 to October 18, scoring 12 goals and totaling 25 points during this eight-match stretch.
The award caps a tremendous career for Fingerhuth, who will graduate as one of the most decorated players in Patriot League history. The three-time first-team All-Patriot League recipient was also recognized as an All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection in each of her four years. She ranks sixth in Patriot League history with 115 career points while her 51 goals are good for third place in League annals. Fingerhuth was also named a third-team All-American in 2008, making her one of just five Patriot Leaguers, all from American, to win multiple All-America nods.
Van Erp receives the honor after controlling the midfield and registering a career-best 18 points this season. She totaled six goals and six assists on the year while also helping American's defensive unit to a 1.11 goals against average, the fourth lowest in the nation. The midfielder recorded her first career hat-trick against Richmond in American's first match of the season and as a result was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. She was named All-Mid-Atlantic Region on three separate occasions and is also a three-time All-Patriot League Honoree.
The Patriot League has produced at least one All-American for 10 consecutive years, with American placing at least one student-athlete on the list for the eighth straight season. It is the third straight season and eighth time in the past nine years that multiple Patriot League players earned All-America honors.
