Center Valley, Pa.--Two Patriot League student-athletes were selected to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-American Team, it was announced Monday. Named to the Second Team was American senior defender Anne-Meike de Wiljes, while Lafayette junior goalkeeper Kelsey Andersen was placed on the Third Team.
De Wiljes, the 2009 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, anchored a defensive unit which held opponents to just 1.30 goals per game. She helped American notched four shutout victories. De Wiljes and the Eagles allowed opponents to take just 7.4 shots per game while earning 4.5 corners per game, all while playing against nine teams ranked in the national top-20.
Andersen, the 2009 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, finished 14-6 with a League-best eight shutouts to earn First-Team All-Patriot League honors. She was a recipient of three weekly conference honors this season as Goalkeeper of the Week.
American defeated Lafayette for the 2009 Patriot League Championship, giving the Eagles seven straight Patriot League titles. The Eagles knocked off Lock Haven in the NCAA play-in round before falling to No. 1 Maryland.
