2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Teams
2009 NFHCA Division I Senior All-Stars
Center Valley, Pa.—A total of nine Patriot League student-athletes were named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams, it was announced Thursday. Four American student-athletes were named to the Mid-Atlantic Team, including two First-Team selections. Lafayette had three selections on the Mideast Team, including two First-Team honorees. Bucknell and Lehigh each had one student-athlete placed on the Mideast Region Second Team. Also announced were the 2009 NFHCA All-Stars. Representing the Patriot League will be American seniors Anne-Meike de Wiljes and Savanna Graybill.
De Wiljes and American junior forward Christine Fingerhuth were placed on the All-Mid-Atlantic First Team. Fingerhuth, the 2009 Patriot League Player of the Year, scored a team-high 13 goals this season with three assists for 29 points. De Wiljes, the 2009 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, anchored a defensive unit which held opponents to just 1.30 goals per game.
Named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team were Graybill and American junior midfielder Anna van Erp. Graybill totaled 27 points on 11 goals and five assists, while van Erp led the team with nine assists.
Lafayette juniors Kelsey Andersen and Meghan Cicchi were named to the All-Mideast First Team, while the Leopards’ Deanna DiCroce was placed on the Second Team. Andersen, the 2009 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, finished 14-6 with a League-best eight shutouts. Cicchi registered three goals and three assists while anchoring a Lafayette defense that allowed just one goal per game. DiCroce, a freshman forward, led the Leopards with 26 points on 12 goals and two assists.
Also receiving All-Mideast recognition were Lehigh freshman Kim Eng and Bucknell junior midfielder Morgan Kauffman. Eng was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year after leading the League in goals (13) and points (34) during the regular season. Kauffman led the Bison in points (21) and assists (11).
American won its seventh consecutive Patriot League Championship in 2009, defeating Lafayette for the title. The Eagles advanced past Lock Haven in the NCAA Play-In Round before falling to Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.
The 2009 NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, November 21 on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. The game will be played at 5:30 p.m.
