Center Valley, Pa. - Patriot League Tournament host American placed a League-high eight student-athletes on the 2008 All-Patriot League Field Hockey Team announced on Tuesday. Second-place Lafayette followed with six selections. Five student-athletes from Colgate were named to the All-Patriot League team, followed by four from Bucknell, three from Holy Cross and two from Lehigh.
American had three First-Team All-Patriot League members and five student-athletes named to the second team. Headlining the group was four-time All-Patriot League selection Irene Schickhart. The senior leads the Patriot League in points (36), points per game (2.12), and goals per game (0.82). She is tied for the League lead in goals with 14, including seven game-winners. She ranks seventh in assists with six on the season. Joining Schickhardt on the first team were junior defender Anne-Meike De Wiljes and sophomore forward Christine Fingerhuth. De Wiljes was named to the All-Patriot League second team a year ago. She led a defense that produced seven shutouts. De Wiljes anchored a back line that helped limit its Patriot League foes to just two goals this season. De Wiljes also finished tied for seventh in the Patriot League with eight assists. This season marks the first time in Fingerhuth's career that she has been named to the All-Patriot League team. She finished second on the team and seventh in the Patriot League with 20 points. She was fifth in the Patriot League with nine goals.
Second-team selections for American included junior forward Savannah Graybill and junior goalkeeper Alyssa Poorman, both of whom were named to the second team a year ago. Also on the second team from American were first-time honorees Kirstin Gebhart, Anne van Erp and Tatum Dyer. Gebhart and van Erp are both sophomores, while Dyer was one of just two freshmen honored. Poorman made 70 saves while racking up 10 wins in goal, seven of which were shutouts. Her 1.41 goals against average ranks 19th in the nation. Gebhart started all 17 games for the Eagles. She scored a pair of goals, including one game-winner. As a freshman, Dyer stepped in immediately and started all 17 games on the American back line. She helped the American defense limit Patriot League foes to just 31 shots.

Lafayette had three student-athletes named as First-Team All-Patriot League selections and three on the second team. Senior Maggie Condon and sophomore Meghan Cicchi were each named to the first team a year ago. This year marks the third time Condon has received first team recognition. Condon shares the League lead in goals with 14. She is second in the Patriot League in points with 33. Cicchi led a Lafayette defense that held three of its five Patriot League opponents scoreless. She also registered two goals and an assist. Condon and Cicchi are joined by Jaclyn DiSanti, who received second team laurels last season. DiSanti earned a reputation as one of the strongest defenders in the League. In addition, she led the Leopards with 11 assists, the third-highest assist total in the League.
Three first-time honorees comprised the Leopards' second-team selections. Lauren Jones, a senior defender, steadied a defense that allowed just four goals in League play. Junior Kelly Hilovsky was second on the team with seven goals, five assists and 19 points. Freshman Carolyn Cabrey was one of two freshmen named to the All-Patriot League team after appearing in 17 games for the Leopards. She registered a goal and two assists in her first collegiate season.
Colgate received five selections on the team, including two First-Team All-Patriot League choices. Seniors Lauren Carey and Maddie Watrobski each earned first team honors for the first time in their careers. Carey was first on her team and third in the Patriot League with 11 goals. She also contributed four assists, giving her a team-leading 26 points. Watrobski led the Colgate defense, while also providing a team-leading nine assists.
The Raiders' second-team selections consisted of three forwards: Laura Denenga, Laura Flisnik and Katelyn Nerbonne. Denenga, a sophomore, was second on the team with six goals, including four-game winners. Flisnik, a senior forward, provided the Raiders with three goals and six assists. Nerbonne, a junior, was third on the team with 14 points. She closed the regular season with four goals and six assists.
Bucknell split its honorees with two First-Team All-Patriot League picks and two on the second team. Senior defender Amanda Faust was named to the All-Patriot League team for the fourth time in her career, including a third consecutive year on the first team. She ranked third in the Patriot League in points with 28. She was also fourth in assists (10) and fifth in goals (nine). She was also named to the NFHCA Senior All-Star team. Her classmate, Trina Boyer, earned All-Patriot League recognition for the first time in her career. She scored eight goals during the regular season to rank seventh in the Patriot League. She finished the regular season with 19 points, good for ninth in the Patriot League. Sophomores Morgan Kauffman and Corrine Raczek were place on the second team for the first times in their careers. Raczek led the Patriot League with 14 assists. Kauffman finished second with 12 assists. Kauffman also finished with five goals, while Raczek contributed one goal.
For Holy Cross, senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton and senior forward Kristin Schulz were named to the First-Team All-Patriot League list, while junior midfielder Courtney Callahan was named to the second team. Singleton earned first-team honors for the second consecutive year. It is the third year she has been named to the All-Patriot League team. She led the Patriot League in saves and save percentage. She ranks third nationally with 8.50 saves per game and 12th in the country with a .773 save percentage. Schulz led the Crusaders with 25 points, including a team-leading 10 goals. She ranked fifth in the Patriot League in points and goals. Callahan, a junior back, provided the Crusaders with four goals and two assists while aiding the Holy Cross defense.
Lehigh had one team member recognized as a First-Team All-Patriot League pick and another as a member of the second team. Junior attacker Kelly Fox paced the Mountain Hawks with seven goals and two assists to earn first-team recognition. Sophomore defender Taryn Hartzell notched a goal and an assist to earn second-team honors.
The Patriot League will announce its major award winners in conjunction with the 2008 Patriot League Field Hockey Championship Banquet held on the campus of American University on Thursday, Nov. 6. American will serve as the host of the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Joining the Eagles in Washington, D.C. will be No. 2 Lafayette, No. 3 Bucknell and No. 4 Colgate.
