CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Bucknell senior Tayler Siegrist was selected as the 2012 Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and one of 11 members on the sport's Academic All-Patriot League Team announced on Thursday.

Siegrist became the first three-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team, which originated in 2010. She was joined on the squad by junior teammates Erica Perrine and Rachel Misko, American senior Gina Hofmann and juniors Shelly Montgomery and Jaclyn Anspach, Colgate juniors Kelsey Jensen and Halle Biggar, Lafayette seniors Emily Valeo and Jaclyn White and Lehigh sophomore Lindsay Metzger. Hofmann, Anspach and Valeo each made the Academic All-Patriot League Team for the second year in a row.

Siegrist enjoyed a stellar senior season, earning first-team All-Patriot League honors earlier in the day. Siegrist has 22 points for the year on eight goals and six assists, ranking in the top ten in the Patriot League in all three categories. She has also helped the Bucknell defense to three shutouts and a 1.89 goals against average for the year. Siegrist has played and started in all 76 of Bucknell's games during her career.

Siegrist has earned academic honors at Bucknell while carrying a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average as a Management major. She is a six-time Patriot League academic honor roll recipient as a member of the Bison's field hockey and track and field teams. Siegrist has made the Bucknell Dean's List ever semester by carrying a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for carrying the GPA mark. She is a three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Academic Squad and also earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors last season.

In addition to her academic and athletic accomplishments, Siegrist has become an active member of the community at Bucknell. She is a member of the Bucknell Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the school's German Club. Siegrist also put her studies to use by serving as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant and an tutor in Accounting, Math and Reading. She completed an externship with Campaign Administration at Bucknell.

 

 

Siegrist is the seventh Bison student-athlete to earn the Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete award, and second in the past three years after Christine Weiss won the honor in 2010. The seven awards are more than any other school in the Patriot League.

American's three Academic All-Patriot League picks all excelled in the class and on the field. Hofmann (3.56 GPA, Business Administration major) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday, while Montgomery (3.61 GPA, Health Promotion) was a first-team All-League honoree and Anspach (3.79 GPA, Health Promotion) made the second team.

Perrine (3.77 GPA, Accounting) and Misko (3.66 GPA, Management) not only joined Siegrist on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, but both juniors were second-team All-Patriot League picks as well. Colgate's Jensen (3.67 GPA, Chemistry) and Biggar (3.24, Chemistry) backed up their play on the field with success in the classroom. Lafayette's Valeo (3.73 GPA, English) was a first-team All-Patriot League pick while White (3.63 GPA, Geology) made the second team. Lehigh's Metzger (3.48 GPA, Arts and Sciences) also made the second team, as nine of the 11 Academic All-Patriot League honorees were also All-Patriot League selections.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
