Patriot League Field Hockey Championship Central
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The last spot in the Patriot League Field Hockey Tournament came down to the final game of the season, and it was Colgate securing the berth with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross to join host Lafayette, American and Bucknell in the bracket for next week's event on Friday and Saturday at Rappolt Field.
The Raiders make the Patriot League Tournament for the second time in the last three years, and take the No. 4 seed in the field. That earns them a semifinal date on Friday with host and top seed Lafayette, which is ranked No. 11 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Leopards completed a perfect Patriot League campaign with an 8-0 win at Lehigh on Saturday, their 12th consecutive victory overall to improve to 14-1 for the season.
American will play as the No. 2 seed and Bucknell as the No. 3 after the Eagles defeated the Bison 2-1 in Washington on Saturday to finish in second place in the Patriot League. The teams will have a rematch in the semifinal round on Friday.
The winners will face off for the Patriot League Championship on Saturday. Times for both the semifinals and championship will be announced at a later date. The winner of the Patriot League Championship will move on to an NCAA Play-In game on Nov. 6 at the champion of the Ivy League.
Lafayette is hosting the Patriot League Field Hockey Tournament at Rappolt Field for the first time since 2002. The Leopards are in the field for the seventh year in a row and 16th time overall, American plays in the Patriot League Tournament for the 12th time in as many seasons in the League and Bucknell is in for the fifth consecutive year and 15th time overall.
