CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the 10th time in 11 seasons, the American Eagles will play as the top seed in the Patriot League Field Hockey Tournament after securing their position with a 1-0 win over Bucknell at home on Saturday.
The Eagles will host Boston University, Bucknell and Lafayette in the postseason tourney at Jacobs Field on Nov. 8-9. The two-time defending champion Leopards earned the last spot in the field with a 4-3 win over Colgate on Saturday.
American will host the Patriot League Field Hockey Tournament for the eighth time in nine seasons, as it was not able to host despite holding the top seed in 2003 and 2004. The Eagles won eight consecutive League titles as the No. 1 seed from 2003-10 before Lafayette won the crown the past two seasons. The Eagles are 5-0 in the Patriot League, and will try to secure their eighth undefeated League record when they visit Lehigh next week. American has made the Patriot League Tournament in each of its 13 seasons.
Boston University will play as the No. 2 seed in its first Patriot League Tournament. The Terriers are 4-1 in League action, with the only loss coming in a 1-0 overtime defeat at home against American on Sept. 28.
Bucknell makes the postseason tourney for the sixth straight season and 16th overall, while Lafayette is in the Patriot League Tournament for the eighth year in row and League-high 17th season. The Bison finish the Patriot League season at 4-2, while the Leopards have a 3-2 mark heading into their season finale at Boston University. Bucknell will play as the No. 3 seed, with Lafayette as the No. 4.
