By the time one reaches their senior year at college, familiarity has long ago settled in and the semesters come and go with little in the way of surprises. Not so for Bucknell's Katie Ruiz, whose final fall semester has been somewhat of a whirlwind, though you won't hear her complaining.

Ruiz, a Lewisburg High graduate, entered her senior season with the Bucknell field hockey team with a new coach -- Jeremy Cook -- and a new position.

Having played defense her previous three years for the Bison under former coach Heather Lewis, Ruiz made the switch to forward under Cook and has since blossomed as a key cog in a resurgent Bison field hockey program.

In three years under Lewis, Ruiz played in just 19 games and never in more than seven in a single season. She had amassed a total of two assists. This season has been a bit different as Ruiz ranks fourth on the team with five goals, fifth in total points with 14 and second in game-winning goals with two. She has played in all 15 contests thus far and started in 13.
