For the third-straight year American will host the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex. Competition will take place Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3. The Eagles clinched the right to host the tournament with a 6-1 win over Lehigh on Sunday. The Eagles are 4-0 in Patriot League action, while all remaining teams have multiple losses.

Semifinal action will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 with American facing the No. 4 seed and No. 2 and 3 seeds playing one another. The winners of the semifinal games will compete in the Patriot League Tournament Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 3. Game times to be announced.

American has been the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament for the last four years but was unable to host the championship until 2005 when the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex was completed. The Eagles have appeared in the Patriot League tournament in each year since joining the League in 2001 - serving as the No. 3 seed in 2001 and 2002 - and have won four-straight championship titles.

Colgate, Lehigh, Lafayette and Holy Cross will vie for the remaining three spots into the tourney. All four schools are 2-2 in the Patriot League.

Below is the Patriot League's tiebreaking procedure for field hockey.

In the case of two-way ties in the final standings for regular-season Patriot League play, the following process will be used until all ties are broken and the seeding process is completed (ties will be broken in rank order beginning with the highest seed):

Head-to-Head Competition The higher seed will go to the team that has won the most Patriot League contests played against the other team involved in the tie.

If a Tie Still Exists, a comparison of records will be made between the tied institutions starting at the highest possible seed and continuing through the lowest seed, if necessary.

Sport-Specific Tie-Breaking Procedure

A Comparison of Records versus out-of-League common opponents;

A Comparison of Winning Percentages (Division I opponents only);

Coin flip

In the case of multiple ties (more than two teams tied for the same spot), the following process will be used: Note: The entire process for multiple-team ties must be completed. The Patriot League does not revert back to the two-way tie formula once the multiple-team tie has been resolved.

Records between the tied teams will be evaluated to determine if one team won more contests against the other tied institutions.

If a tie still exists, a comparison of records will be conducted for each team starting with the highest seed not involved in the tie and continuing through the lowest seed, if necessary.
